The transRobota catalogue summarizes a three-stage project (2006–2007 ) which comprised the 7th edition of the Baltic Contemporary Art Biennial in Szczecin. The project focused on the character and effects of transformation and labor in postindustrial areas, specifically, the island of Łasztownia in Szczecin.
The three phases included: a conference-type panel discussion themed around development plans for the island; a presentation of projects proposed by artists invited to participate in the event; and the exhibition of the works selected for inclusion in the Baltic Biennial.
The catalogue features essays detailing the original concept of this site-specific project (by Urban Art, co-curators of the 2007 Baltic Biennial), a review of the final exhibition in the National Museum in Szczecin (by Marlena Chybowska-Butler) and a CD-ROM of a 3D animation of the realization of the selected projects on the island (by graphic artist Bogdan Achimescu). Other essays include a history of Łasztownia by Bogdan Twardochleb, and thoughts on the subject of transformation and role of artists and artistic creations in the area’s future development by Adam Mazur, Faye Tzanetoulakou and Christoph Tannert, who participated in selecting the works for the final exhibition, as well as critical reviews of the artists and their works. ‘transRobota’ was realized within the Artventure program.
